Honduras. The executives of the Globeleq-Mesoamerica consortium began the operation of 102 megawatts of wind energy in Santa Ana, a municipality that will not only be recognized for having the largest park of this type of energy in Central America but will enjoy tourist and labor benefits thanks to this project.
The manager of the National Electric Power Company (ENEE), Roberto Martínez, said during the opening ceremony that this consortium was authorized to generate 24 megawatts more by the force of the wind, which means that this company will be able to produce about 126 megawatts.
The investment for this project exceeded US$200 million, which was contributed by Banco Ficohsa, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Export-Import Bank of the United States.
The Martinez official also highlighted that during the first months of operation of this wind farm, about US$10 million will be saved.
Meanwhile, the Terra group is studying to invest several million dollars in the construction of a wind farm in San Marcos de Colón, also in Honduras, where they will generate 50 megabytes.
