Chile. With the purpose of saving up to US$10 million in energy consumption, Sebastián Piñera, president of Chile, launched a campaign that proposes not to wear a tie during the summer and thus be able to raise the temperature of air conditioning equipment by three degrees, without harming the comfort of users.
The initiative, which Spain pioneered, has been called "In summer, take off your tie" and was launched in the South American country by the Minister of Energy, Rodrigo Álvarez. According to the official, this project foresees that by raising between one and three degrees Celsius the levels of air conditioning it is possible to achieve a saving of 3% in electrical energy, which is equivalent to US $ 10 million.
Álvarez also commented that the experience has been very satisfactory in other latitudes and that the ideal would be to be able to bring together all sectors of society in this proposal.
"This has been implemented in other countries, which has helped reduce the use of air conditioning, generating great economic savings and at the same time savings in the use of energy, where we hope the public sector and also the private sector will be involved," he said.
It should be remembered that air conditioning (and heating) systems are responsible for generating the highest energy expenditure in both the residential, commercial and industrial segments.
