International. The global refrigeration industry is facing a significant challenge today. On the one hand, the use of chlorine as a component of some refrigerants and on the other hand the excessive consumption of energy, about 15% of the total produced in the world.
For this reason, the United Nations (UN) has promoted the implementation of good refrigeration practices in all sectors; an initiative that seeks to care for the environment to reduce the acceleration of the wintering effect.
Now, "the implementation of this initiative can generate collateral effects initially, because for the cold professional to evaluate how to create more efficient machines for less energy consumption, it needs a strong training process, which sometimes companies are not willing to assume," William Morales Quispe, general manager of Reter IRL, told ACR LATINOAMÉRICA.
"People need knowledge of the refrigeration system in a complete way, almost like calculating engineers, how it works, what type of machinery can be implemented and how to make the production cycle more efficient to minimize all these effects and, this efficiency in the machines achieved through the total knowledge of the system, will contribute to there being less carbon dioxide emissions and to make the industrial process more profitable from the point of view of utilities," added the engineer.
In Latin America, the UN grant has been well received and about 20% of companies at the industrial level have been linked to the care of ecology and have wanted to adopt good refrigeration practices as a culture within their process. In countries such as Argentina, Ecuador and Peru, training of groups of technicians began and in Colombia it is planned to do the same.
"But forced by circumstances, the industry is going to join this initiative. Fossil fuels that generate electricity in many countries tend to raise their prices, so the only way to compensate for this increase is to make machines more efficient. Only in this way will it be possible to maintain a sustained price of the product so that it is commercial, so in about 5 years the percentage of companies that host this initiative in the region will exceed 50%," Morales emphasized.
