The supermarkets Hipermás, Más X Menos, MaxiBodega and Palí (Wal-Mart Central America stores) adjusted their refrigeration systems and lighting in order to save 1,520,000 Kw of energy per year.
The specific actions translate into the change of standard lighting for a more efficient one, installation of energy management equipment, improvements in cooling and the provision of equipment for humidity control.
The multinational company also launched in Mexico the campaign "Si puedes", which seeks to take care of the environment without spending more in the 173 Walt-mar self-service stores, through an alliance with its suppliers, presenting a catalog of products that protect the environment.
These products include groceries, electronics, clothing, toys, cleaning supplies, general merchandise, among others, which can be placed in the category of recycled, biodegradable, non-polluting or water or energy-saving elements.
