Polluted indoor air generates or aggravates 50% of diseases

Mexico. For the HVAC industry, the search for Comfort and Indoor Air Quality are two of its main objectives. Particularly Air Quality is of vital importance in companies, since 50% of diseases are aggravated or are caused by polluted indoor air according to the American College of Alergies, Asthma & Immunology in addition to being considered by the EPA (Federal Environmental Protection Agency of the USA) among the five main environmental risks that can harm public health.

A person on average spends approximately 90% of their time in enclosed spaces (American Lung Association), for this reason office buildings, industry, commerce, residential and hospitals would have the obligation to have artificial / mechanical ventilation for a health issue rather than comfort, this is because within an enclosed space pollutants such as carbon  dioxide are concentrated, which can cause inflammation in the respiratory tract, allergic reactions or lack of oxygenation in the bloodstream, said Dario Ibargüengoitia, President-elect of ASHRAE (American Society Of Heating, Refrigerating And Air Conditioning Engineers).

Poor indoor air quality poses risks to people's health, as well as a reduction in their quality of life, either in their work environment or at home. For entrepreneurs, health absences mean reduced productivity and economic losses. Technically an optimal indoor air quality according to the American American Society Of Heating, Refrigerating And Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) in its standard 62.1-2016 is "that air that does not contain anomalous agents in harmful concentrations and in which more than 80% of the occupants do not perceive nonconformity when breathing it".

The symptomatology related to poor indoor air quality or the so-called Sick Building Syndrome, points out - Marisa Jiménez founding partner of Air-Care de México - is when people who occupy a building begin to experience varied symptoms such as irritation of the mucous membranes of the nose, throat and eyes; nausea, vertigo, feeling fatigue and a significant incidence of respiratory infections. This will depend on the pollutant present in the environment.

Undoubtedly one of the main challenges will be to achieve laws or regulations that regulate indoor air quality in Mexico, for now the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has recognized that Indoor Air Quality (CAI) is a genuine concern and warns that, Due to the harmful effect on health, well-being, comfort and productivity of the occupants of the building, taking preventive measures must be a priority to keep inside any building, air with optimal quality for the benefit of all.

For 20 years AHR Expo-Mexico has worked to bring together the entire HVAC&R Industry (Heating Ventiliation Air Conditioning & Refrigeration) in Latin America, this year it returns to Mexico City from October 2 to 4 at the Citibanamex Center, with more than 20,000 Air Conditioning products and services, Heating and Cooling Systems, Equipment and Components, Ventilation, IAQ Products, etc. Innovation will be the main feature of this event Co-sponsored by the most important international associations in the HVAC&R sector: ASHRAE and AHRI.
