International. Daikin Industries has been selected as one of the Clarivate Top 100 Global Innovators 2025, a distinction awarded by Clarivate, a global information services company based in London, United Kingdom.
Since 2012, Clarivate has analyzed patent data to identify the world's 100 most innovative companies and research institutions, honoring outstanding organizations over the past 14 years. With this recognition, Daikin has been honored ten times.
Based on a comprehensive patent analysis, Clarivate assesses trends in intellectual property and qualifies companies and research institutions globally for its prestigious listing. Eligible companies are selected based on the number of inventions published since 2000 and awarded in the last five years. The 100 best performing organizations are chosen based on criteria such as Influence, Investment, Success, and Rarity.
As a benchmark in the HVAC&R industry with a global presence, Daikin allows other companies to use some of its patents for the purpose of reducing greenhouse gases in the sector. In 2011, for example, it granted free access to 93 patents related to air conditioning equipment using the refrigerant HFC-32 (R32), characterized by its low global warming potential (GWP), initially in emerging countries and, since 2015, worldwide.
In 2019, Daikin further expanded access to its patents and pledged not to enforce certain intellectual property rights to encourage the use of more energy-efficient refrigerants with less environmental impact. In addition, its technology and intellectual property departments work closely together from the earliest stages of technology development to strengthen their portfolio and protect their business. This approach has been key to obtaining recognition from external entities, such as the one granted on this occasion.
To drive its growth, Daikin continues to bolster its research and development efforts globally, aligning with the goals of its "Fusion 25" strategic plan: to challenge itself to achieve carbon neutrality, drive customer-connected business solutions, and generate value through the air. In addition to securing and protecting its intellectual property, the company will continue to contribute to the development of the industry through strategic alliances with academia and other companies, promoting free access to its patented technologies to foster innovation and sustainability.
