ELECTROLUX JOINS 'EARTH HOUR' BY INVESTING IN ENERGY EFFICIENCY
• 80% of Spaniards value this factor when purchasing an appliance
• Ecosavings and Water Savings studies show that it is possible to save energy and water through responsible use
• Electrolux offers the highest energy rating in its entire range
The Electrolux Group joins Earth Hour 2011, which is commemorated this Saturday, March 26, with a commitment that the company demonstrates by betting on efficient appliances that guarantee considerable energy savings, with the consequent benefit for the environment and for the quality of life of its customers around the world.
It is increasingly important that an appliance is efficient when making the decision to acquire it, a trend especially notable in Spain. In fact, according to a study carried out by Electrolux in eleven European countries and the United States, 80% of Spaniards value energy efficiency when buying an appliance. We are only surpassed by France, with 82%.
In the last decade, the energy savings achieved with the development of new, more efficient appliances are equivalent to the energy generated by nine thermal power plants.
Europe would save 20 million tons of CO2 with efficient appliances...
One of the initiatives undertaken by the Electrolux Group in the environmental field was the European study Ecosavings, according to which the replacement of the obsolete fleet by efficient appliances would save more than one million tons of CO2 emissions per year in Spain.
Today in Europe there are 188 million refrigerators, freezers, washing machines and dishwashers that are more than ten years old. If consumers were to replace them with new efficient household appliances, in Europe alone we could reduce CO2 emissions by around 20 million tonnes each year. This figure is equivalent to the CO2 emitted by 11 thermoelectric plants, or 6% of the European target of the Kyoto Protocol.
... and only in Spain would save 80,000 million liters of water using the dishwasher
In addition to energy, you can save water by using the dishwasher. Spanish households are the ones that could save the most water in the entire European Union if they used the dishwasher instead of washing by hand. This is the main conclusion that emerges from the Water Savings study, prepared by the Electrolux Group.
As a whole, Spanish households would save about 80 billion liters of water annually. With this amount of water, the surface of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium could be filled 5,250 times.
The highest energy efficiency in all ranges
The fruits of the effort are the products that the company launches on the market every year under its brands. Higher-end brands only include appliances with energy rating A.
This is the case of the combis refrigerators, two doors, Side by Side, coolers and horizontal and vertical freezers of AEG and Electrolux, which only sell in Spain devices with energy classification A, A +, and even A + +, the maximum of the market.
The same happens in the case of washing machines and dishwashers, all with classification A or A +. In addition, in these last two product lines Electrolux has introduced a new series, ecosolar appliances, which can reduce energy consumption by up to 40%.
The research effort developed by the Electrolux Group has led it to be the first company on the market to develop a dryer, the AEG Sensidry, with energy classification A + +, compared to the energy classification C of conventional models. An efficiency that allows to provide an energy saving of 40%, equivalent to 5 months of electricity consumption of a conventional dryer.
Target: to reduce energy consumption by a further 15% by 2012
The most efficient refrigerators today consume 70% less energy than they did 15 years ago. The company has reduced its own energy consumption by 15% since 2005 and has set itself an additional 15% as a challenge for 2012. In other words: Electrolux has limited its own energy production and developed products to give society energy and environmental gains.
