The mayor of Zaragoza, Juan Alberto Belloch, has assured that the economy of the future has to have a reduction in the use of coal and be based on renewable energies and innovation.
For Belloch, the commitment to sustainable development and environmental quality, together with innovation is "where we are going to advance inexorably in the XXI century", he highlighted during the ceremony of delivery of the diplomas to 28 new companies that certify a sustainable management in their production or work processes, with the adoption of the ISO or EMAS system. With these additions the Club of Encounters with the agenda 21 Local reaches 179 members.
In his speech, the mayor thanked the commitment of these companies because "in difficult circumstances they have opted for sustainable development and environmental quality."
He also stressed that Zaragoza is a reference city in the reduction of drinking water consumption because "it is one of those that has lower ratios and consumption is lower than when the city had 200,000 fewer inhabitants".
Belloch has also taken advantage of this event to announce the Zero Emissions building, which is being built in La Almozara, next to the Center for Art and Technology (CAT), will be inaugurated in March to specify that "there is already financing from the Ministry of Industry", which is around 28 million euros.
SCORING IN AWARDS
The municipal councilor for Culture, Environment, Citizen Participation and Large Projects, Jerónimo Blasco, has advanced that the city council will study that they score the environmental certifications of companies in the award of projects.
"It is essential that it is valued in the award because there is already a critical mass of companies with these certifications and we will work to be valued and scored because it would be unthinkable that no one wins an award without these certifications."
In this way, he has responded to the request of the president of CEPYME-Aragón, Aurelio López de Hita, who has made an appeal that "this merit be valued and when attending the tenders it is a recognition to be taken into account".
López de Hita has reported that the effort made by these companies has meant that "they dedicate human and material resources that could be allocated to another part of the production, but they have assumed that these measures because they think about the future not the immediate good."
The vice president of the CEZ, José María Marín, has emphasized that the merit of these awarded companies is "greater for the moments we are going through and that is why they propose special solutions to position themselves when this happens and be more competitive and also make more attractive products".
Therefore, he stressed that innovation is "fundamental" to make his products more reliable and has advocated seeking energy efficiency that respects nature.
For her part, the vice president of the Chamber of Commerce and president of the Club of Meetings with the Local Agenda 21 of Zaragoza, María López Palacín, has specified that achieving these certifications "does not have to be more expensive or have a higher cost, but the improvement in the production chain makes them more efficient".
López Palacín has announced that the program that the Club will undertake in 2011 will focus on the energy efficiency of pharmacies, which will result in the city's environment. Finally, he has encouraged non-certified companies to join this recognition and has trusted that this year at least 28 other certified companies will be reached.
MEETING CLUB
The Club of Encounters with Agenda 21 was created on July 30, 2001 through the signing of a collaboration agreement between the City of Zaragoza, the CEZ and CEPYME, with the aim of involving the business fabric in the improvement of the environmental conditions of our immediate environment.
It is about articulating mechanisms that combine the growth of production with the development of cleaner technologies and that generate savings in resources. In addition, it is open to all those business organizations, companies and organizations that are environmentally certified by any of the existing systems and show their commitment to work with the Zaragoza City Council for a sustainable city.
The Club is oriented to the implementation and certification of environmental management systems in the company (SGMA) with respect to the ISO 14001 and / or EMAS standard.
This organization began its journey with 22 companies, which committed themselves since the foundation of the Club with the criteria of sustainability. The increase in partners has been constant since that time and business organizations detect a notable increase in companies requesting environmental quality certificates, which reveals the effort of the industrial fabric to adapt to the new requirements of environmental guidelines.
Among the most noteworthy actions carried out in the last year, are the 65 studies of behavior in energy efficiency that have been carried out in as many companies and the beginning of the realization of four energy audits in companies. (EUROPA PRESS)
