Electrolux, together with the organization 5Gyres, has organized a marine expedition along the Chilean coasts with which they will sail the waters of the southern Atlantic Ocean in search of plastic waste. In that context, both organizations are looking for a crew member to be part of this expedition.
Under the umbrella of the Vac from the Sea contest, Electrolux will recruit a crew member for the expedition, which will depart the Beagle Channel in the south of the country on March 3 and sail for 11 days before it reaches its final destination in Valdivia (on the West Coast), on March 14.
The expedition is not synonymous with "holidays at sea", as the new crew member will go on board to work. In addition to having the opportunity to be part of a crew, you will be asked to collect information about the expedition: you will be able to post information about discoveries and advances through the Vac from the Sea project blog.
The crew member shall:
-Have a keen interest in environmental issues, particularly marine pollution from plastics
-Have experience in writing and photography
-Be a team member who is able to participate in the ship's work: help with shifts, cook, clean and help researchers when needed).
-Do not get dizzy easily
-Be able to swim 200 meters.
-Able to carry a third of the weight of your body
-Be prepared to work at untimely hours
-Speak fluent English

5Gyres' mission is to research and communicate about the global impact of plastic pollution on seas around the world. From January 5 to February 4, Electrolux and 5Gyres are embarked sailing the waters of the southern Atlantic Ocean in search of plastics, specifically from Walvis Bay, in Namibia, to Montevideo (Uruguay). The plastic will be analyzed and subsequently sent to Electrolux as part of the Vac from the Sea project.
Environmental Awareness Initiative
The Vacs from the Sea campaign, created and carried out this year by Electrolux, aims to draw attention to the issue of plastic pollution and the shortage of recycled plastics needed to manufacture sustainable household appliances.
Electrolux and its project partners collected a total of 1,000 kg of plastic waste found on coral reefs, shores, sandy beaches and rocks in five of the world's major oceans and seas. The result has been the creation of five vacuum cleaners that stand out for their colorful design, in addition to the purpose of environmental respect they pursue.
Electrolux is one of the world leaders in the manufacture of appliances for domestic and professional use. Every year, consumers in 150 countries buy more than 40 million products from the Electrolux Group. The company focuses on innovation designed for the user, based on a deep knowledge of their needs, and with the aim of satisfying the real demands of both the domestic and professional markets. Electrolux products include refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, vacuum cleaners and kitchens, sold under such prestigious brands as Electrolux, AEG-Electrolux, Zanussi, Eureka and Frigidaire. In 2009, the Group's sales figure amounted to 10,300 million euros, with a workforce of 51,000 employees.
