Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace have agreed that climate change is "the main environmental problem" and "the main threat facing the earth right now", on the occasion of the celebration this Friday of 'Earth Day'.
Thus, in statements to Europa Press, the head of climate change and energy of Friends of the Earth, Alejandro González, has assured that climate change "aggravates any other type of problem from the environmental point of view, but also social". For this reason, he has advocated reducing the consumption of natural resources, the ecological and carbon footprint "to live within the limits that the Earth's resources provide to the human being".
Likewise, he has proposed "changing the current economic system, which is leading to a plundering of resources worldwide with the aim of transforming the way of consuming and the way in which developed countries relate to impoverished countries."
On the other hand, he highlighted the relevance of 'Earth Day' as a date that "aims to bring together citizens to claim solutions against climate change, as well as to sensitize them about their consumption habits. In this sense, González has denounced that "more awareness and a greater degree of awareness about the meaning of this day and environmental problems are needed."
Likewise, greenpeace's energy spokeswoman, Aida Vila, has encouraged society to reflect on how energy policies are being approached in Spain and the rest of the world. In addition, he has demanded that more be bet on renewable energies that "not only help fight against climate change, but also against the economic crisis, since it saves and generates employment".
Greenpeace has organized around 'Earth Day' a campaign on Facebook, which calls on society to support the use of renewable energies and contribute to the "energy revolution". According to Vila, it is a "formal request for them to manifest themselves on the social network until Friday, which is when this day is celebrated." "This joint statement is counting on a massive sending of messages that will exceed 60,000," he said. Several volunteers from the environmental association have informed passers-by on the streets of Madrid about this campaign. (EUROPA PRESS)
