The scientists of the Cinvestav Méxicos de (Research and Advanced Studies of the Center), directed by José Iván Escalante García, have developed an ecological cement based on geopolymers, this cement reduces up to 80% of environmental emissions and uses 50% less energy for its production.
Cinvestav reported in a statement that "Cement is the second most used product after water in the world, due to the demographic growth that in many cities requires the development of infrastructure, buildings and homes"Escalante's idea is to replace Portland cement, so far the most used for construction, for this ecological cement, ensures that this cement is of greater resistance, durability, low environmental and economic impact.
Every year 2,500 million tons of cement are manufactured worldwide, this represents more than 8% of the emissions generated on the planet, therefore, this innovation of being able to take it from laboratories to the field, would be a great leap in the construction industry and a blessing for the well-being of our planet.
Another ecological advantage is that geopolymers, by using waste, contribute to the preservation of natural mineral resources and avoid the accumulation of industrial waste in landfills.
Truly a very environmentally friendly option!
