Gestamp Renewables has signed through its subsidiary Gestamp Wind Steel an agreement with the company Worthington Industries to create a 50% joint venture for the production of wind towers for the North American market, it announced in a statement.
The new company Gestamp Wind Worthington Steel has already identified an area, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, as the site for the implementation of the tower production factory. The two partners hope to sign an agreement in the next quarter for their facility and employ 150 people when the facility is fully operational.
"Worthington and Gestamp Renewables will perform very well working on this joint venture," said Gestamp Renewables President and CEO Jon Riberas. "We have factories for the production of wind towers in Spain, Turkey and Brazil, and we are delighted to partner with Worthington on this project," he added.
For his part, the president and CEO of Worthington, John P. McConnell, considered that this 'joint venture' is "the result of an analysis of the opportunities posed by renewable energies" carried out over several months.
Gestamp Wind Steel maintains global supply agreements with the main players in the wind turbine markets and will provide the necessary operational experience for the manufacture of the towers.
For its part, Worthington will contribute its experience in the North American market for the manufacturing, purchasing and human resources of the new company.
The new joint venture plans to start operations in the first quarter of 2012 and aims to provide steel towers to wind turbine manufacturers. (EUROPA PRESS)
