The Spanish company Gamesa, world leader in the industrial sector of renewable energies, has signed the constitution of the Chair number 35 of the University of Zaragoza, which will promote Research and Development (R & D) dedicated to new technologies for sustainability, mainly those linked to the wind sector.
The Vice-Rector for Institutional Relations and Communication of the University of Zaragoza, Pilar Zaragoza, and the General Director of Technology of Gamesa, José Antonio Malumbres, have signed this Wednesday the cooperation agreement, in the Paraninfo Building.
It contemplates the design of a program of coordination of research on technological development, as well as the joint participation in national and international calls related to this topic.
With this objective, collaborative relationships will be established with research groups and other international university centers that carry out teaching or research on technological development, the University of Zaragoza has informed in a statement.
Likewise, cooperation will be promoted in training programs and in the implementation of new studies on designs of wind turbines and wind farms, composite materials, metal materials, electricity generation, electrical models, connection of wind turbines to the grid, simplified models, simulation, aerodynamics, cfd, automatic control and robotics, electronics, stochastic models and other fields of interest.
This section includes the implementation of a new call for grants for engineering students to develop final degree projects in new sustainable technologies and will support the realization of doctoral theses in the field of activity covered by the Chair.
APPLIED INNOVATION
Gamesa works both in the field of renewable energies and energy efficiency, "in order to generate clean energy more efficiently and in greater quantity", as well as in the creation of a global network of applied innovation and the implementation of programs for the creation of technology-based companies. This will be another of the strategic axes of the Gamesa University of Zaragoza Chair.
The company is one of the world leaders in the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of wind turbines, with the installation of 20,000 megawatts in some thirty countries on four continents.
In Aragon, it has a stable presence for 15 years, as a wind turbine manufacturer and wind developer. Currently, the company manages the operation and maintenance services of different wind farms in the three Aragonese provinces.
It also operates two R&D wind farm centres in the municipalities of La Muela and Jaulín, in the province of Zaragoza. In the latter municipality, Gamesa has installed and commissioned its first prototype in the world of its new Gamesa G10X wind turbine, with a unit power of 4.5 megawatts, the largest for an onshore turbine.
Gamesa maintains a production center (Nacelles plant) and offices in Tauste (Zaragoza). This circumstance will allow a direct relationship between students and professors of the University of Zaragoza with professionals of the company to be launched on the ground, the same sources have indicated.
