Iberdrola Renovables has bought from Gamesa the Bii Nee Stipa wind farm in Mexico, with an installed capacity of 26 megawatts (MW), the company announced in a statement.
With this wind farm, Iberdrola's renewables subsidiary adds two operating complexes of this type in Mexico and raises its capacity in the country to 106 MW.
The Bii Nee Stipa wind farm is located in Juchitán de Zaragoza, in the State of Oaxaca, in one of the windiest areas in the world. The installation consists of 31 Gamesa wind turbines, of the G52 model, with a unit power of 850 kilowatts (kW) and 65 meters high.
Iberdrola Renovables already has in operation in Mexico the La Ventosa wind farm, with 80 MW of installed capacity and registered by the UN as a Clean Development Mechanism.
La Ventosa is located a few kilometers from Bii Nee Stipa, also in Juchitán de Zaragoza and, when it was launched, it was the first park developed entirely by a private company in Mexico. The facility has 94 wind turbines 44 meters high, also of the G52 model of Gamesa.
The company chaired by Ignacio Sánchez Galán is currently building another wind farm, the La Venta III wind farm, located in the municipality of Santo Domingo Ingenio, also in the State of Oaxaca. This wind farm, which will have a capacity of 103 MW, will use 121 wind turbines of the Gamesa G52 model, with 850 kW of unit power and 44 meters high.
When La Venta III comes into operation, the company will have an operating installed capacity in Mexico of 209 MW, thanks to which it will be able to supply electricity to around 110,000 homes and avoid the emission into the atmosphere of about 420,000 tons of CO2 per year.
All Iberdrola Renovables wind farms in Mexico (La Ventosa, La Venta III and Bii Nee Stipa) will have Gamesa technology, which consolidates this company as its main global supplier. In fact, of the 12,006 MW that the company has installed, 7,079 MW are equipped with Gamesa technology. (EUROPA PRESS)
