UBV COP16 – Review of the Day 1

The city of Cancun Mexico, was held the first day of activities of cop16, the president of the Mexican country Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, welcomed 194 delegates from different countries and all participants, highlighting "closing the gaps between climate change and poverty, with sustainable development".

At the end of the welcome speech, on behalf of the Mexican government, Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa Cantellano, took the presidency of the conference, and the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Christiana Figueres, affirmed that COP16 can be a success if all countries commit to do their part in climate change policies.

The ad hoc working group on long-term cooperation had its first session on the official agenda as part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change under the Kyoto Protocol.

Already in the afternoon with the participation of the Mexican First Lady Margarita Zavala Martín del Campo, I celebrate "The women of Mexico in the face of climate change" in the Mexico Pavilion of the Cancunmesse Convention Center.
