Since the end of July of this year, the call for the international public tender for the acquisition of a wind tower that would be installed near the headquarters of the COP16 climate change summit was launched.
In the first instance it seemed that the tower would be installed within the facilities of the Moon Palace Hotel, then at the beginning of November the Mexican Center for Environmental Law (Cemda) filed a complaint with the Environmental Protection Offices of Quintana Roo, because apparently they had begun the construction of the wind turbine without having the environmental impact authorization ordered by the General Law of Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection (Legeepa).
What is intended is that the 137-meter-high wind turbine capable of generating 800 kilowatts, will supply the necessary energy that will be required during the celebration of the COP 16 Climate Change Summit. The energy generated will be sent to the electricity grid through an underground line that will be connected to one of the electrical substations located in Cancun.
We have not found information about its exact location, today traveling on the Canucn-Chetumal road, we could appreciate that the airgenerator is fully installed, although it seemed not yet to be in operation, it is less than 1 km away from where the COP 16 headquarters will be.
Unfortunately I was not carrying my camera at the time, but we will take some pictures again and hope to find more detailed information about this wind turbine.
