Chile. The Ozone Unit of the Ministry of the Environment, with funding from the CCAC (Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-Lived Pollutants), implemented together with the Jumbo-Valdivia Supermarket an unprecedented refrigeration system with transcritical C02.
This is the project "Technical and financial assistance to adopt transcritical CO2 refrigeration technology in a supermarket in Chile", which serves as a connecting axis between the different actors involved in the refrigeration chain of the supermarket sector to promote the adoption of transcritical CO2 technology and therefore, minimize the introduction of HFC-based systems in Chile," says Claudia Paratori, coordinator of the Ozone Unit.
Paratori also pointed out that there are no examples in Chile of the use of transcritical CO2 technology in supermarket refrigeration systems, so this project is an opportunity to promote the actions of this technology in the country.
The 5,300 m2 store, opened on January 12, was built to the highest standards of sustainability. It includes 100% LED lighting and an integrated energy management system, along with the CO2 cooling system.
