United States. Currently under construction in Richland, in the US state of Washington, a new cold store with different advantages will be completed by July of this year.
According to Preferred Freezer Services, which is in charge of construction, this will be the largest refrigerated warehouse in North America, which houses the largest automated frozen system in the world. The 42,300 m2 warehouse (equivalent to about 8 football fields) is 35 meters high and is expected to handle more than 900,000 tons of frozen food per year.
It will also be the first warehouse in North America to use a nitrogen-based oxygen reduction system as its primary fire prevention mechanism. Most fires in logistics operations are caused by defects in electrical equipment present in almost all warehouses.
Oxygen reduction systems employ innovative technology that continuously reduces oxygen levels in the room by adding nitrogen to the atmosphere. Oxygen is reduced to a level where most fuels are not ignited and the possibility of an open fire is denied.
