Panama. The Plaza Ciudad del Saber has become the first building in the Panamanian nation to obtain the LEED Gold Category Certificate granted by the Green Building Council (Usgbc) of the United States.
This new Plaza, adorned with native or adapted plants of low or low maintenance, incorporates permeable concrete surfaces or grass blocks, and an upper slab covered with a highly refractory material, thus reducing the need for air conditioning.
In addition, it has faucets and toilets with low water consumption, uses natural lighting and low-consumption luminaires to save energy, and incorporates materials with a high content of recycled raw material, or from renewable or regional sources, such as woods that come from certified forests. Finally, the building has facilities for parking bicycles and showers for cyclists.
Six new buildings are being built in the City of Knowledge that are in the process of obtaining LEED certification, including a Transfer Terminal for the benefit of those who use public transport to get to and from the City of Knowledge.
