United States. The Department of Energy (DOE) is developing a new process or protocol for government and industry organizations that standardizes energy-saving processes.
The protocols are being developed by technical experts with the collaboration of energy efficiency program managers, industry players and residential energy advisors, including major companies that develop up to 70% of home energy assessments in the United States.
The new procedures provide a simple method for assessing how energy savings are made possible through some residential and commercial construction improvements offered through initiatives funded by the national government.
These energy efficiency improvements include energy saving and lighting controls, commercial air conditioning, residential furnaces and boilers. These voluntary protocols will help energy efficiency program managers and local governments improve objectivity, consistency, and transparency on energy-saving data, and help strengthen consumer confidence in expected outcomes on energy efficiency upgrades.
