Peru. With the aim of finding new sources of energy, so far in 2011 the General Directorate of Electricity of the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru, has authorized 13 companies and investors to execute geothermal explorations.
These permits, which will be valid until 2014, can be made effective in the departmental areas of Tacna, Ayacucho, Puno, Ancash, Moquegua and Arequipa; in tracts of land of 25 to 100 hectares divided into grids or in sets of grids adjoining on at least one side.
Some of the companies that have approved authorization to carry out these analyzes are Andes Power Perú S.A.C., Eco Energy S.A.C., Hot Rock Perú S.A., and Magma Energía.
According to Supreme Decree No.019-2010-EM, geothermal energy is all that heat energy that can be found under the surface of the earth in different forms, different from hydrocarbon resources.
