Costa Rica. On November 15, a meeting was held between Javier López Rodríguez, International Director of Italsan, and Andrea Meza Murillo, Minister of Environment of Costa Rica.
Costa Rica, a country with high environmental and social standards, has recently been elected winner of the Earthshot Prize, an award that recognized the initiative created by the country since 1997 by the Payment of Environmental Services (PSA).
Meza Murillo was part of the Costa Rican delegation that participated in the recent COP26 summit held in Glasgow, leading together with Denmark the International Pact to End Fossil Fuels, known as the "Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance".
In this meeting, López Rodríguez, after presenting a brief analysis of the sector in Costa Rica, proceeded to comment on points of improvement detected by Italsan to strengthen the commitment to sustainability from the construction sector. Topics such as the excessive use of unsustainable materials in buildings in Costa Rica and also pollutants such as plastic derivatives with Bis-Phenol A and phthalates were exposed; The use of cooling systems by ice water in refrigeration facilities was also commented, as they are of greater energy saving compared to those that use polluting gases.
López Rodríguez, on behalf of Italsan, thanked the Minister for her interest in deepening her knowledge about the situation of the sector and was available to continue with these dialogues that contribute to sustainable development.
