Caribbean. The Courtyard by Marriott Curaçao is a luxury hotel, with 152 rooms and suites in front of the cruise terminal, on the island of Curacao, which is still under construction. The project was originally designed using VRF and package units to handle the fresh air in the hotel.
The manufacturer, when studying the case, decided that it was necessary to redesign, working as a team with its business partner which recalculated the thermal load and offered to change the 100% fresh air package units for air treatment units with VRV kit and with HSHP for humidity control.
The use of HSHP offers a more efficient solution of lower operating cost since the HSHP does not use electric heater. Additionally, the new design contemplated changing the splits located in the lobby for VRV units to maintain the same technology throughout the project and to be able to control all the units with i-Touch Manager (iTM).
Daikin also asked the owner to validate the new design with an outside consultant of his choice. This was located in Chile, due to the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 the brand relied on the use of webinars and video conferences to train the consultant from Chile in the Daikin product portfolio and with the support of the office of this country, he was invited to know the VRV facilities in the Costanera Center of the city of Santiago.

"By managing to turn this project into Daikin BOD, we won. Well, not only did we offer the client a comprehensive and cost-effective solution, but we also offered the best solution, showing in the process that the original capabilities were not calculated correctly and that our teams have the technology capable of efficiently adapting to different areas of the same project and complying with the concentration limits stipulated by Marriott regulations. Our local business partner handled the installation of all equipment," the brand's statement reads.
"The 360º approach, in which Daikin has contact with all the factors involved in decision-making (owner, consultant and contractor) is a highly effective way to win projects by demonstrating our capacity for analysis, knowledge of the high technological level that our teams and related personnel possess," he adds.
Daikin explained that this project was carried out during the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. "These led to a sudden change in the behavioral dynamics of our workforce. Many companies were forced to work from home, including ours, so we decided to take action in an extremely short period to cope with the urgency of this project. Ironically, Covid-19 gave us an extra push to make this challenge a well-fulfilled project. At Daikin we are convinced that supporting our associates with effort and talent allows us to achieve any goal."
