International. Possibly when you go to the store for a new air conditioning equipment one of the terms you hear most when making your purchase decision is Inverter. And, while you know the word is related to saving, you'd be surprised how this technology can improve your life and that of your family.
"Inverter is an energy-saving technology that eliminates the inappropriate use of energy in the operation of air conditioning systems by efficiently controlling the speed of operation of the engine according to the requirements of the environment that is sought to be conditioned," summarizes Miguel Castro, general manager of Daikin Chile and Peru for the Direct Expansion division of Daikin.
Air conditioning systems maintain the established comfort temperature, cooling the environment when the temperature of the environment rises above the established one or heating it when it falls below the established level. The rotational speed of the compressor in non-Inverter air conditioners remains constant and the temperature is adjusted by turning the equipment on and off, which consumes more energy.
In Inverter air conditioning systems the temperature is adjusted by changing the rotation speed of the engine without the need for constant switching on or off. "That means that, compared to air conditioning systems that are not Inverter, those that are have lower energy consumption due to continuous start-ups and can save up to 40% of energy," says Castro. "To understand it better we could compare the operation of the system with that of your car: a non-Inverter air conditioner is a car that moves through the city and stops at each traffic light, which makes the vehicle work more and use more resources for its route, decreasing its overall MPG performance (Miles or kilometers per Gallon). An Inverter team is the same car, but it goes on a highway: set up the cruise control and you're good to go. This allows you to match the speed to the state of the road, increasing the overall MPG," he explains.
With the help of Daikin we have managed to better explain the Inverter technology: it controls the frequency of the voltage applied to the compressor and changes the revolutions (speed), which directly affects the capacity. The standard method (on/off or No Inverter) applies constant frequency (60Hz) to the compressor: therefore, the capacity must be adjusted by on-off operations.
Its multiple advantages for our daily life could be summarized in three large groups: comfort, since it allows us to maintain the preset temperature and even reach it quickly after the ignition of the equipment; energy savings measured through its energy efficiency index, annual efficiency: the fact that the on/off operation is not necessary for capacity control and the possibility of a demand control that allows to configure the energy saving mode. A third advantage is related to the initial savings of the equipment since an Inverter equipment could generate a capacity greater than the nominal, which allows us to select smaller models than those we should choose if the equipment were non-Inverter and, at the same time, considerably reduces the starting current compared to a non-Inverter.
Therefore, Inverter is synonymous with constant temperature, energy efficiency, savings and a comfortable home.
