International. The Volkswagen Group is establishing a Group company for energy offerings and charging solutions, underlining its strategic goal of becoming a sustainable mobility provider. Elli Group GmbH, based in Berlin, will develop products and services related to energy and charging of the Group's brands.
Thorsten Nicklaß, former CEO of the Digital Energy Solutions joint venture and now appointed CEO of Elli, announced that the new Volkswagen Group company would also offer customers outside the Group 100% CO2-neutral green energy from renewable sources.
"Our mission is to take e-mobility out of its niche and place it firmly in the mainstream. The name "Elli" means "electric life", because we intend to enable a lifestyle that fully integrates the electric car into people's everyday lives. This approach could be compared to using a mobile phone, which is taken for granted today."
The company will gradually build a portfolio of smart energy tariffs, wall boxes and charging stations, as well as an IT-based energy management system.
Until the market launch of Volkswagen ID., the first model based on the modular power tool kit (MEB) in 2020, the company will successively implement a large number of solutions that private and commercial e-mobility customers need now and in the future, from hardware for charging, additional digital services and complete advisory packages.
