Central America. According to figures from the information system of the Air Conditioning Machines Market in Central America, from the Business Intelligence Area of CentralAmericaData, between January and June 2018 the region imported US$92 million in air conditioning equipment, and 51% was imported by companies in Panama and Costa Rica.
Statistics show that during the first six months of the year the main buyer of air conditioning equipment in Central America was Panama, with US$29 million, followed by Costa Rica, with US$18 million, Honduras, with US$16 million, Guatemala, with US$11 million, Nicaragua, with US$10 million and El Salvador, with US$9 million.
Change in regional imports
Between January and June 2017 and the same period in 2018, the value imported registered a decrease of 7%, from US$99 million to US$92 million.
The fall interrupts the upward trend registered in the first half of the last five years, since in the period January-June of the years 2013 to 2017, imports grew at an average rate of 7%.
Origin of imports
During the first half of 2018, 39% of the value imported from Central America came from China, 34% from the US, 3% from Mexico and 2% from Spain.
China is the country of origin of Central American imports that has grown the most in the period under analysis of the last seven years, since in 2012 it represented 21% of the total value purchased and in 2018 it rose to 39%.
Observation: This analysis was carried out considering machines and devices for air conditioning suitable for modifying adjustable temperatures and humidity to walls, windows, floors or ceilings, vehicles, and the respective parts of the equipment.
