Chile. The XVII version of the IIAR Seminar on Natural Refrigeration for Latin America, Santiago 2018, organized by the Chilean Chamber of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (CChRyC), in conjunction with the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR), held on August 30 and 31, aimed to show how to naturally refrigerate an industrial refrigeration system with ammonia, and also deliver the guidelines to respond to the regulation on security conditions that will be launched soon in that country.
The event was held at the Hotel Cumbres Vitacura and the 232 attendees had the opportunity to be present at the keynote speech and more than 9 technical presentations aimed at responding to the challenges of the regulations, membership of the international affiliate to the IIAR, work material, among other subjects.
Among the main rapporteurs were the president of the Chilean Chamber of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Peter Yufer in conjunction with Hugo Cordero, regional chemical safety manager of the Los Lagos Region and supervisor of the occupational health unit, who spoke about: What is it and how does it apply the regulations of the Ministry of Health (MINSAL)?, audit guidelines. The topic was well received by the audience and after the exhibitions an interesting round of questions was generated.
The next rapporteur was Yesenia Rector, from IIAR United States, who spoke about the management of the safety plan in ammonia refrigeration systems.
Attendees were also able to attend, during the two days of the event, the exhibition of the presentations of:
- Rodrigo Mena of ASI Otec Hazmat, with the theme: An emergency response plan for its staff in the plant.
- Walter Castillo de Hillphonix with: Alternatives to reduce the amount of ammonia in industrial refrigeration systems.
- Kleber de Oliveira from Johnson Controls on: High temperature heat pumps (up to 90°).
- Juan Arias de Güntner and his topic: IIAR Bulletin 116: Avoiding component failures due to abnormal pressures in industrial refrigeration systems.
- Juana Gutiérrez de Parker on: Considerations in the selection of safety valves for industrial refrigeration systems.
- Flavio Comunian of Intercal and his theme: Efficient air conditioning of process rooms, a different look at a common problem.
- Claudio Henríquez de Danfoss spoke about: Gas detection in refrigeration systems.
- Viviana Pérez de Mayekawa and her topic: Alternatives for energy use by heating fluids using the discharge stage in ammonia systems.
- Finally, and to end this important activity, a closing ceremony and the delivery of awards were held, and the invitation was extended for the XVIII version of the IIAR Seminar on Natural Refrigeration to be held in Guadalajara, Mexico.
