International. Ingersoll Rand reported that it reached two years ahead of schedule, one of the goals of the Climate Commitment established in 2014. This year, the group has already reduced 35% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the company's offices, manufacturing facilities and fleet. The goal was to make that reduction by 2020.
After making a commitment, energy audits were carried out on the premises, the updating of lighting, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and controls, and the elimination of compressed air energy leaks during measurements, the validation and presentation of the results.
So far, there has been a reduction in energy consumption by 109,000 MM BTUs and electricity consumption by 22,000 MWh, the equivalent of CO2 emissions from energy used to supply more than 1,750 homes for a year.
"Exceeding our own energy efficiency goal two years ahead of schedule is a framework we are happy to celebrate. Just as we produce innovative and increasingly energy-efficient solutions for our customers, we are doing so within our facilities," emphasizes Paul Camuti, Vice President of Innovation and Chief Technology Officer of Ingersoll Rand.
The company also announced investments in renewable energy technologies to deepen its Climate Commitment and reduce the impact on the environment. Among the exchange shares, Ingersoll Rand signed a purchase agreement for approximately 100,000 MWh of wind energy per year. Such an initiative replaces 32% of the use of electrical energy in facilities in the United States.
"Our Trane Energy Services team has developed a smart roadmap for the sustainability of our business. "That reduction in electric power equates to preserving 600 acres of U.S. forests or recycling 26,000 tons of trash," said Keith Sultana, senior vice president of Global Operations and Integrated Supply Chain at Ingersoll Rand.
In the large factories of the cities of Trenton, New Jersey; Columbia, in South Carolina, and in Taicang in China, solar panel installations have already begun to serve about 15% of the electrical load consumed, which represents an economy of 560 thousand gallons of gasoline or the removal of a thousand cars from street plants.
Ingersoll Rand's Climate Commitment promised:
• 50% reduction in the greenhouse footprint in the refrigerant fluids of its products until 2020 and inclusion of alternatives with lower global warming potential (GWP) in its portfolio until 2030;
• Investment of US$500 million in product research and development by 2020 to finance the long-term reduction of greenhouse gas emissions;
• 35% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the company's offices, manufacturing facilities and fleet by 2020.
So far, Ingersoll Rand's Climate Commitment has already globally avoided the emission of approximately 11 million metric tons of CO2 from its products compared to a 2013 line. The company also reduced the greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity of its operations by 23% compared to the 2013 baseline.
