Brazil. Founded in 2008, the Department of Indoor Air Quality - Qualindoor de Abrava - completed 10 years of activities, working in favor of the quality of the air breathed by society.
Among the objectives of the Department is "to be a reference as a technical forum and spokesperson on the issue of internal air and water quality for indoor environment systems." And, the results obtained validate this mission: there are more than a thousand conferences held; courses with about a thousand participants; alliances with Anvisa, Cetesb and government bodies; revisions of standards; and several actions in favour of the sector represented.
For Eduardo Brunacci, president of Qualindoor, "These 10 years represent a history of achievements, of progress at the national level, disseminating information, expanding the responsibilities of professionals in the area and consequently bringing to the knowledge of consumers the great benefits that indoor air quality behind for all".
Several factors were fundamental and can be highlighted for the creation of the Qualindoor, such as the trends of the architectural projects of modern buildings added to the increase in the indices of atmospheric and sound pollution that favored and induced the use of artificial (or mechanical) air conditioning and ventilation systems.
Consequently, it was perceived that the fall in the internal air quality standard caused inevitable damage to the occupants, thus requiring greater attention and care in compliance with laws, regulations and technical resolutions. In this sense, the Qualindoor aims to guarantee the quality of indoor air through actions aimed at the organization, dialogue, integration and awareness of commercial and technological practices of entities and companies in this sector.
