Brazil. The Brazilian Program for the Elimination of Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), substances that affect the ozone layer, has already made it possible to withdraw 34% of Brazilian consumption of these elements, whose goal is 35% by 2020, as established by the Montreal Protocol.
The second stage of the Brazilian HCFC Elimination Program, the PBH, has the commitment to remove 51.6% of these substances from the production chains as of January 2021. The substance must be banned by 2040.
In a few days the draft of the Normative Instruction presented at a meeting of the Working Group coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment (MMA) that took place last week will be concluded. The document was well received by the associations representing the productive sectors and should be submitted to public consultation until the end of the year.
The general coordinator of Protection of the Ozone Layer of the MMA, Magna Luduvice, explains that technological evolution already guarantees a transition without major impacts for the industry. "There are several replacement options that can be adapted to each sector," he says.
