Colombia. The Minister of Mines and Energy, Germán Arce Zapata, and the Director of the Energy Mining Planning Unit, UPME, Ricardo Ramírez, announced the selection of the investor that will connect large-scale non-conventional renewable energy to the National Interconnected System.
This is the UPME Call 06-2017 that from wind energy produced in La Guajira will generate 1,360 MW of capacity from November 2022.
The project includes the construction of the new Colectora substation at 500 thousand volts that will be connected to the Cuestecitas and La Loma substations for a total of 370 kilometers of electrical layout.
At the end of the award hearing held at the UPME, Minister Arce declared: "With the award of this project we are writing a new chapter in the history of the sector and fulfilling the national objective and international commitments to diversify the Colombian matrix with renewable energies."
For his part, the general director of the UPME said that "the unconventional renewable potential in Colombia is immense and with Conexión Eólicas we are making the integration of these technologies into the country's electricity system a reality, diversifying our energy basket in the process."
The project, which will be part of the electrical expansion scheme required to guarantee the country's energy reliability, was awarded in a public hearing to the firm Grupo de Energía de Bogotá, which will invest US$174,330,880.
