United States. Carrier released a statement confirming that approximately 600 employees at the Indianapolis plant will not continue with the company for next year, giving even more certainty that the HVAC equipment manufacturer will move part of its operations to Mexico (Nuevo León).
About 15 days ago, 300 employees already left the company in favor of outsourcing in Mexico. While by the end of December, about 290 workers will also finish their work with the brand in the plant in question.
U.S. President Donald Trump had reached an agreement to prevent some 800 employees from losing their jobs in Indianapolis and from moving the vacancies to Mexico. However, Carrier announced that it maintains an agreement in which the company committed to employ about 1,100 associates in the US city.
Therefore through a statement he explained:
"Carrier continues to fulfill its 2016 commitment to employ approximately 1,100 associates in Indianapolis. As announced in November, this includes headquarters and engineering work and more than 800 employees supporting our gas furnace manufacturing center.
This week (end of July), approximately 300 employees left Carrier as part of the previously announced plan to relocate fan coil manufacturing production lines. These team members include more than 30 associates who have chosen to take advantage of the company's Employee Fellows Program and continue with degree programs. In addition to reimbursing four-year education costs, Carrier will also reimburse technical training costs for those who prefer to pursue a vocational technical certification program. All team members will also receive severance pay and six months of continuation of health insurance beyond separation.
As previously announced, in total, this transition will impact approximately 600 jobs in Indianapolis over the next few months. Affected employees will have an employment opportunity within UTC's manufacturing operations.
United Technologies, Carrier's parent company, announced in June that, over the next three years, it expects to hire nearly 25,000 people in the United States, of which more than 5,000 new positions will be created in support of the company's innovative products."
