International. During the Climate Change Conference (COP 22) in Morocco, the United Nations urged governments to increase funding to address the problem.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for greater efforts to mobilize funds in this area, especially for developing countries.
"This is the key to achieving resilient societies and low-carbon economies," Ban said in a message to the conference. This is also one of the main objectives of the Paris Agreement that entered into force on November 4.
That pact, adopted last December in the French capital by 196 states, seeks to strengthen the response to the threat of global warming and proposes to keep the temperature increase below 2º Celsius in this century.
In the city of Marrakech, where COP22 was held until November 18, participants defined the ways of implementing the Paris Agreement.
In turn, the goal is to formulate a plan to provide financial assistance in this area.
