International. In Europe, different associations belonging to the industrial guild have asked the European Commission to strengthen its ecodesign and energy labelling policies.
In a letter signed by eight refrigeration and HVAC industry associations (ASERCOM, CECED, Digital Europe, EHI, EHPA, EPEE, EuroACE, Euroheat & Power) they urged politicians to take action to help European industry contribute to the EU's energy targets through the deployment of energy-efficient products without putting innovation and competition are at risk.
"Ecodesign and energy labelling has been very successful in recent years for various product groups, reducing the product's energy consumption and providing a major contribution to the EU's energy and climate targets," said EPEE CEO Andrea Voigt. "We want this success story to continue," he added.
The group specifically calls for the publication in the Official Journal of the European Union, without delay, of the already approved ecodesign measures for certain product groups. The lack of official publication is creating unnecessary uncertainty for the industry.
Partnerships also call for effective ecodesign measures based on a clear and transparent methodology. On components, in particular those included in products already covered by ecodesign requirements, they state that they should not be regulated.
Finally, the group calls for measures to promote the market uptake of energy efficiency products by raising consumer awareness of energy-efficient products, market surveillance and inspecting installed devices that may lead to planned replacements.
