International. Steril Aire, a company specialized in solutions to improve air quality and energy efficiency, shared some recommendations related to Ultra Violet Germicidal Irradiation (IGUV), and the benefits of a good installation with this technology.
The company explains that a well-planned installation with very high intensity emitters can bring many benefits to the user. Where it has been proven that a dose not less than 9μW·s/cm2 per watt measured at a distance of 1 meter from the UVC lamp in air velocity of approximately 400 feet per minute (2 meters/second, or 122 meters/min) and air temperatures ranging from 45º to 50°F (7 and 10°C) is the minimum necessary.
The most important thing is to mention that a properly performed UVC installation allows not only to automatically clean any cooling coil, but also to purify the air passing through it and also improve the efficiency of the equipment in question.
Some benefits of implementing high-intensity UVC:
- Energy saving, between 10 and 20% of the total consumption of air conditioning equipment.
- Automatic cleaning of the cooling coil eliminating the manual process (better maintenance service).
- Increase in the thermal transfer efficiency of the coil by removing scale of mold, bacteria and particles (bio film).
- Purified air free in 99% of mold, viruses and bacteria.
- Reduction in absenteeism from work, current results show improvements of up to 50%.
- Reduction in infections, asthma symptoms, allergy and partial pandemic protection (attenuates the possibility of contagion of viruses, including H1 N1 among others).
- Allows the recycling of condensate, enabling water for use in irrigation, toilets, fountains, cooling towers among other applications.
- Greater use of man-hours of maintenance.
