International. The Technical Commission of AEFYT (Association of Cold Companies and their Technologies of Spain) shared a content with which it highlights the importance of carrying out a correct maintenance in order to guarantee the prevention of legionella in risk equipment: spas, swimming pools, public fountains, nebulizers and cooling towers, among other types of facilities.
In its annual campaign on the prevention of legionella in risk equipment, the AEFYT Technical Commission recalls that a correct inspection, cleaning and disinfection of the facilities will prevent the reproduction of any of the circumstances that favor the proliferation of the bacteria in the risk equipment.
Temperature: the bacterium does not multiply below 20 degrees even if it is still alive, while above sixty it does not survive.
Nutrients: in the installation there must be nutrients that allow the multiplication of bacteria, that is, sediments, mud, corrosion residues, etc.
Shelters: Mud, biological films and scale can offer shelter to the growth of Legionella.
"In particular, evaporative cooling equipment is safe with proper maintenance, to which are added the recent technical advances that have been implemented and that constitute a further guarantee of safety. In addition, a consequence of the modernization of the fleet of evaporative cooling equipment is to facilitate its maintenance and, therefore, socio-sanitary safety, "says the association in its statement.
