United States. Revisions to most chapters, including updates related to thermal storage and heating and cooling districts, are included in the recently published ASHRAE Handbook 2016 – HVAC Systems and Equipment.
The volume analyzes various systems and equipment, components or assemblies that compose them. It describes the features and differences, to assist system designers and operators in the selection and use of equipment.
"Nearly 90% of the chapters have been revised since the volume's publication in 2012," said Forrest Yount, the volume's director. "That means there's a lot of new material that users need to familiarize themselves with. Many chapters have incorporated the results of the latest ASHRAE-funded research projects."
The volume contains two major changes to the chapters. Chapter 12, Heating and Cooling District, has new contents from ASHRAE's RP-1267 research project (the new Heating District Guide and Cooling District Guide), while Chapter 51, Thermal Storage, has new content on grid reliability, renewable energy integration, heat storage, emergency cooling, water treatment and commissioning.
Other changes that are likely to have an impact on many users include Chapter 19, Pipeline Construction, extensive reviews on system leaks and air dispersion systems; Chapter 33, Furnaces, Technology Upgrades, and Current Efficiency Requirements; and in Chapter 49, Unit Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps, new information on appliance efficiency standards in the U.S. regions.
