Mexico. The Ministry of Energy announced the official launch of an online application that allows to know different scenarios in the energy and climate issue for the year 2050.
The Carbon Calculator 2050 is a tool that allows the user to create long-term scenarios and analyze the options available to ensure the necessary energy for the country and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Through the balance of various options to increase the supply of clean energy, to make energy use more efficient and to reduce GHG emissions, the Carbon Calculator 2050 allows the user to assess future scenarios in terms of their impact on greenhouse gas emissions, dependence on fossil fuels as well as energy efficiency and security. The model is freely accessible and you can access the tool and the assumptions of the modeling.
The tool was initially developed by the UK government and has been adapted in 25 countries. In Mexico, the Calculator is part of the cooperation activities between SENER and the United Kingdom's Department of Energy and Climate Change. For its elaboration, it had the support of the Government of the United Kingdom and the technical accompaniment of the Mario Molina Center.
The calculator allows you to explore questions such as:
How much energy can be supplied from different technologies?
How much energy do different sectors use and how could it be reduced?
What level of emission reduction could be achieved?
