International. Danfoss has released details of its plans for the launch, starting this year, of a large number of new compressors running on low Global Warming Potential (GWP) reciprocating refrigerants.
The Danish compressor maker says it is finalizing training plans for new refrigerants for air conditioning and refrigeration applications. These trainings are expected to begin later this year and continue through 2018.
"It is Danfoss' goal to offer the same reliability and safety in the application and minimize the impact on the environment and ensure the competitiveness of the system for equipment manufacturers, installers and end users," said Luigi Zamana, marketing director of Danfoss Commercial Compressors, who stressed that, just as it is necessary to have a GWP structure compatible with the European F-gas and SNAP requirements of the United States, candidates are being evaluated by flammability and load limit, operation map, behavior of lubricants with the new refrigerants, energy efficiency and accessibility, which includes potential refrigerant and patent costs, as well as the impact on system development, redesign, operation and maintenance costs.
In the air conditioning market, where Danfoss currently offers a range of compressors from 3 to 350TR, a number of alternatives are being tested to replace R410A and R134a refrigerant.
In the food retail sector and commercial refrigeration applications, where refrigerants R404A and R134a will be banned in new equipment as well as replaced in Europe and the US, Danfoss has been looking at a number of alternatives.
For light industrial applications, Danfoss compressors are now available for use with propane (R290) and the "slightly flammable" refrigerant A2L R1234yf.
