Colombia. In 2015 the Colombian Council for Sustainable Construction (CCCS) announced its positive balance sheet during its management in 2015.
The Council supported the formulation processes of at least 15 national and local initiatives that seek to promote sustainable construction. These advances mark a milestone in recognizing sustainable construction as a meritorious best practice of support from the State.
Among the most relevant are: 1) the commitment to reduce Colombia's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 20% by 2030; and 2) the issuance of Decree 1285/2015 of the Ministry of Housing, City and Territory (MVCT) on sustainable construction guidelines for buildings and its first Regulatory Resolution (549/2015) that adopts the Guide for saving water and energy in buildings for new constructions. This regulation will reinforce ongoing policy-making processes and inventive sustainable construction in cities such as Bogotá, Medellín and Barranquilla.
The CCCS recently sealed a partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council and Business Certification Inc., to support the development of LEED certification in Colombia. An agreement that will benefit the members of the CCCS to offer greater services supported by both entities.
