Brazil. Data from 2015 provided by the National Energy Balance shows that buildings, whether industrial, commercial, utility, residential and/or public account for 50% of all electricity consumed in that country.
According to a survey conducted by the Brazilian Association of Energy Conservation Service Companies (Abesco), in collaboration with the Green Building Council Brazil (GBC) and the Brazilian Association of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Ventilation and Heating (Abrava), lighting and air conditioning are the main energy-consuming systems in buildings, and may represent a reduction of $35.2 billion reais (about $10 billion) for end consumers.
"Brazilian buildings on average have a minimum reduction potential of 30% in electricity consumption and our goal is to demonstrate that in the Brazilian building market it is possible to find several specialized solutions and services for energy efficiency," says Abesco President Rodrigo Aguiar.
