International. Honeywell achieved a major victory in protecting its patents when a Chinese municipal court ordered a local chemical company to halt production of HFC-245fa, which is used to make the insulating foam.
The Zibo Municipal Intermediate Court of Shandong Province, China, ordered the company to immediately cease its patent infringement of Honeywell's processes.
"This is the first ruling Honeywell has obtained from a Chinese court to enforce patents in China. This is an important issue for that country, and it's something the Chinese government clearly takes seriously," said Jerry Xia, Honeywell's senior intellectual property lawyer for North Asia. "We spare no effort to protect our intellectual property, and we hope this ruling will serve as a warning to other entities that infringe or plan to infringe Honeywell's patents."
