Panama. The Panamanian Association of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (Apayre) published in its latest bulletin the complaint made by the entity to the Authority for Consumer Protection and Defense of Competition, Acodeco, for misleading advertising.
Although the name of the company was not disclosed, Apayre formally reported the existence of misleading advertising with the marketing of an air conditioning product. These are Evaporative Coolers that are offered as an alternative to traditional air conditioning equipment.
These equipment, according to the Association, "should not be used in regions of high temperature and high relative humidity such as Panama, since its implementation causes the lack of comfort, health problems in users and deterioration in furniture and surfaces, by excessively increasing the relative humidity of the environment."
Likewise, Apayre denounced before the same public entity the sale of air conditioning equipment that has an EER of less than 10 and that does not allow the requirements of the RAV, as well as an alleged saving of 80% in the electricity bill for using Inverter type equipment.
The president of Apayre, engineer Pedro Vásquez, told ACR LATINOAMÉRICA that so far Acodeco has not given them any official response on the investigations that must be carried out for the complaints.
