International. Michael W. Lamach, President and CEO of Ingersoll Rand, released a statement explaining his and the company's stance on the issue of climate action and the commitment it represents for the company.
The executive explained that he has received many questions in recent months about Ingersoll Rand's commitment to reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, issues that intensified with the news about the Withdrawal of the United States from the Paris Agreement on climate change.
Lamach commented: "In early May, Ingersoll Rand joined a coalition of companies, formed by the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES), which signed a letter published in its entirety in the mainstream media, requesting the permanence of the United States in the Paris Agreement. We signed the letter because we believe that climate engagement is a global issue, and our customers around the world are demanding solutions, regardless of policy or regulation. Our consumers seek our guidance on how to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from their buildings, industrial processes and transport systems. Our innovations can improve operational performance and reduce their impact on the environment."
He added: "As a global company with a sustainability-based strategy, Ingersoll Rand is committed to improving environmental impact. The Climate Commitment we made in 2014 is a long-term pledge to significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from our products and operations through 2030 and we have made great progress so far. This commitment helped us globally avoid the emission of 6.7 million metric tons of CO2 from our products compared to 2013, the equivalent of CO2 emissions from energy used to supply approximately 700,000 residences in the one-year period. We also reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from our operations by 23% – compared to the 2013 baseline.
Like Ingersoll Rand, companies from all sectors highlighted their climate engagement actions.
In the letter, signed by the coalition, the companies expressed concern for the well-being of their customers, investors, communities and suppliers; and ensured to continue innovating and providing solutions that their customers need, in addition to striving to strengthen their climate resilience.
