Lights on the road

At the beginning of this year I saw two pieces of news that caught my attention and that make me think that in Latin America you can progress in the same way as it happens in other latitudes in terms of regulations for air conditioning and refrigeration systems.

The first important note has to do with a law passed in Brazil for the execution of a Maintenance, Operation and Control Plan for air conditioning systems in buildings for public and collective use, which seeks to improve the quality of the equipment installed in terms of safety and efficiency. I see this as a great advance achieved by entities in the sector that fought to get the Government to approve a project that will surely improve the operability of this segment in the Brazilian country.

It would be very important for such initiatives to be replicated in other countries. That governments listen to our associations and begin to work much more to improve the existing regulations in the sector, in order to avoid the informality that affects the industry so much.

Another important initiative was in Chile, where the Security and Energy Efficiency Protocols issued by the Superintendence of Electricity and Fuels (SEC) came into force for commercial refrigerated furniture used in the sale and exhibition of groceries. This requires certifying this kind of equipment at the time of entering this country. Another excellent initiative that was influenced by the activities carried out by the association of that country in favor of a more regulated industry.

This opens a light in the way to think that perhaps in a few years other countries in our region will increase in interest in generating new and important regulations that protect the industry much more and eliminate so much informality.

I hope to be able to tell you more examples like these throughout 2018.
