Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, so it is called the longest bridge in the world, is located in Louisiana, USA, and connects the cities of Mandeville and Metairie. It measures 38.4 kilometers in length, has two parallel lanes and in the central part there is a section in elevation to facilitate navigation through the lake, currently China is developing some projects that if carried out could exceed this length.
The longest bridge in the world, was inaugurated in 1956, but only had one lane, it was not until 1969 that the parallel lane was built, but since 1920 artificial islands were built that were connected by a series of bridges, the final financing was obtained from the sale of real estate within the islands.
To be able to carry out the construction, 9,000 ant pillars were necessary, to use the bridge it is necessary to pay a toll, even so, a traffic of up to 3,500 vehicles is reached every hour. Since 1992 there has been the idea of building a third lane, but the construction has not been able to be carried out because the entire budget to date is still used for the reconstruction of the area after Hurricane Katrina.
