As some of you know, Un Blog Verde was present at the Climate Change Village that was held in Cancun within the framework of COP 16 this December.
In the villa you could find different activities, exhibitions, companies, products and proposals, some green and others not so much.
In the end, the question arises, shouldn't a climate change village be sustainable with the environment?, here are our conclusions, both positive and negative, so you can make your own judgment.
The Climate Change Village had an aspect of a picturesque traditional Mexican village, highlighting the folklore of our country. Air conditioning was not used because of the weather it was not necessaryThere were modules and containers for the proper separation of wasteRenovative LED lamps that worked with solar energy were usedThere was a lot of information available on how to take care of the environment and how to help reverse climate changeAll the events and forums were totally free and open to the general publicIt was a comprehensive and complete eventBashy quality exhibitions such as the Mexico in Your SensesThere was an excellent organization but unfortunately the diffusion was not adequate or sufficientThey generated too much non-recyclable waste, for example the food that was delivered to the staff in the villa was in unicel cases and plastic bagsTo be able to buy food it was necessary to buy some exclusive tickets of the villa (waste of paper) and others delivered a ticket every time they bought tickets (more waste of paper)The delivery of brochures and printed information was excessive and did not go according to the theme of the eventPamphlets were delivered in paper bags as decoration (again more waste of paper)The security was excessive in the day and at night there was no security, which is when there were more people in the enclosureThere was no healthy food, Natural and vegetarian available, most of the foods available were fast food, junk, bottled soft drinks and fritanga. As a whole I think it was a good start in terms of sustainable events, but there is a lot to learn and a long way to go.
