International. As part of its ongoing research into ozone-depleting substance substitutes and low greenhouse warming potential (GWP) refrigerants, a European company has developed non-flammable and energy-efficient alternatives for both R22 and R404A. These new products are RS-50 (R442A) replacing R404A, and RS-70 replacing R22.
The English company Refrigerant Solutions (RSL) ensures that the RS-70 is a non-flammable replacement for R22, which has been designed to have the lowest possible GwP World consistent with the high thermodynamic performance, having a similar cooling capacity and a coefficient of performance (COP) equal to R22.
Consequently, the RS-70 can be used to replace R22 in air conditioning and refrigeration over the entire temperature range where R22 is commonly used. RS-70 is compatible with both traditional mineral and alkylbenzene oils, as well as polyol ester lubricants, so there is no need to change the existing lubricant in the system when replacing R22.
As for the RS-50 (R442A) it has a (GWP) of less than half of the R404A, along with a higher efficiency and coefficient of performance. The RS-50 (R442A) can be used to replace R404A on both new and existing equipment.
RSL ensures that there is no need to make changes to the hardware and that an increase in energy efficiency and increased capacity can be expected. Users will be able to achieve a lower carbon footprint due to the lower direct GWP of the refrigerant and its inherent higher efficiency.
Since the properties of RS-50 are similar to R404A, it is suitable for use in many of the applications in which R404A is commonly found including supermarket showcases, cold stores, freezers, refrigerated transport, ice machines, cold.
