Spain. A group of researchers from the Center for Integral Automation (CeDInt) of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) created a novel intelligent controller for the air conditioning of office buildings, which improves comfort levels for occupants and their energy efficiency.
The main innovation of this automatic control called ClimApp lies in the algorithm developed that, using artificial intelligence techniques, calculates the optimal temperature to satisfy the thermal comfort of all occupants. Aspects such as the activity being carried out, the type of clothing, radiation from the outside, etc., are taken into account to correctly execute the application.
ClimApp also developed an indoor location system for the smartphone application that learns dynamically, and without the need for prior configuration, the WiFi signals that are received in each area, so that the system can know in real time where each of the users is.
The key to the system is its ease of adjusting the operation of the air conditioning depending on the needs of the moment, which according to the group of researchers, improves the comfort of users and reduces the use of energy.
