Colombia. The first stage of what will be the most modern medical complex in Latin America is currently being built. The facility, belonging to the San Vicente de Paul Corporation (Corpaúl), is located east of the department of Antioquia, in the municipality of Rionegro and will have an initial investment of $250 billion (about US$140 million).
This space, which will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology in medical matters, will also be a structure with a green trend. It will have windows that will allow 75% of the light that will be used in the hospital to be obtained naturally. In addition, it will be characterized by the use of sensors that will help control the expenditure of electrical energy.
On the roof will be installed a team of solar panels that will provide 35% of the energy consumed by the hospital and maintain the temperature of the water, which will be heated with the use of the heat generated by the air conditioning units.
According to the director of San Vicente Specialized Centers, Guillermo León Valencia, by implementing this construction system, the hospital aims to significantly reduce the carbon footprint left by its operation, which is why it has an international LEED certification in process.
